Is it me or is there something off about the grandfather?

If you are referring to the former emperor, nope, he is just a doting old man, who feels guilty about leaving Jun Jiu behind and what has happened to her while he was away, and he is trying to make up for it, he is very overprotective of her as well, and views her as his own granddaughter, even closer than his own grandson or son for that matter

What a plain episode I'll watch this after a month goodbye.

well i will continue to watch as episodes come out but agree it has become fairly plain recently :/
